To thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important exposition on building a sports power, actively promote the development of our university’s sports undertakings, carry forward the sports spirit, enhance students’ physical fitness, and showcase the demeanor of HIT students. On September 28, the 2024 Freshmen Sports Meet of Harbin Institute of Technology was successfully held at the Second Campus Stadium.

This sports meet was hosted by the Department of Physical Education and the Communist Youth League Committee of Harbin Institute of Technology, undertaken by the Preparatory Department and the School of Future Technology of Harbin Institute of Technology, and co-organized by the Security and Management Center of the Logistics Group of Harbin Institute of Technology. Feng Zhiyong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Physical Education, Tao Yongchun, Director of the Department of Physical Education, Lü Yan, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Department and Secretary and Director of the Preparatory Department, and Zhang Baojun, Deputy Director of the Department of Physical Education, attended the opening ceremony of the sports meet.

At 9 a.m., the National Flag Formation, University Flag Formation, Future Technology Formation, Preparatory Department Formation, and Bicycle Club Cycling Formation entered the venue in turn. After the solemn flag-raising ceremony, Director Tao Yongchun delivered the opening address, expressing his earnest expectations for students to enjoy fun, enhance their physical fitness, cultivate a sound personality, and temper their will through physical exercise. Representative of referees Liu Song and representative of athletes Liu Yuxiao took oaths on behalf of all referees and athletes respectively. Subsequently, Director Tao Yongchun of the Department of Physical Education announced the opening of the 2024 Freshmen Sports Meet of Harbin Institute of Technology!

The sports meet featured a rich variety of competitions, including traditional track and field events such as sprints, long-distance runs, long jumps, and high jumps, as well as fun sports events such as Crab Ball Carrying, Big Rope Jumping, Whirlwind Run, and Giant Ball Relay. Freshmen experienced the charm of sports, cultivated team spirit, displayed youthful vitality, and enriched the campus sports culture during the competition.

At around 12 noon, the sports meet concluded successfully, and the Chief Referee announced the competition rankings. Dreams set sail, new journey is brilliant. It is hoped that the 2024 freshmen will, in their future study journey, carry this dream and passion with them, strive vigorously, forge ahead courageously, and strive to write an unforgettable chapter of youth!
